Why choose Mill Strand Integrated School & Nursery? Why do we do what we do? Why do we exist? and Why should anyone care?
These were just some of the questions we asked ourselves in 2015 as we embarked on articulating our vision and core values, identifying what matters most for our children and young people and ensuring that we remain focused on the key foundations on which to build a positive, rewarding and successful life of learning.
The outcomes were an inspirational reminder of what really matters, providing the basis on which to determine how we develop learning and teaching at Mill Strand. We know we won't get everything right and that we will make mistakes but in sharing our values and vision, we are identifying the destination of our own learning journey, setting a benchmark for the years to come.

If the ethos of Mill Strand Integrated School & Nursery could be summed up in one sentence, this would be it. We recognize the importance of this statement, the enormity of it and the exceptionally high demands it places on the school. We accept that in striving to live up to it we will make mistakes but also realize that this lies at the very heart of the school, underpinning the very reason we exist.

Children are simply amazing, full of aspiration, wonderful ideas and equipped with open inquisitive minds. At Mill Strand Integrated School & Nursery we believe in every child's right to aspire, supporting ambition by creating as many opportunities as possible to explore new learning, activities, sports and adventures. 
At Mill Strand Integrated School & Nursery our pupils are only setting off on a life long journey of learning - we believe that it is essential they do so with confidence, with an open inquisitive mind and an appreciation and enjoyment of each stage of that journey.

WE BELIEVE THAT EDUCATION...
“We believe that education is about the holistic development of the individual and that learning comes in many forms."
Research over the past three decades has completely rewritten our understanding of how we learn and the importance of a holistic approach to learning. Effective learning draws on a range of learning styles, connected learning techniques and multiple intelligences, including emotional intelligence. While the basic skills of Literacy and Numeracy remain essential, employers increasingly refer to the 3Cs as desirable attributes for the workplace: the ability to Curate, Communicate and be Creative. In educating children at Mill Strand Integrated School & Nursery we are educating children for a world we cannot fully imagine and for jobs that don't yet exist. The holistic development of pupils provides an emotionally, psychologically and socially strong foundation and the skills and confidence to think of solutions rather than simply remember learned 'facts' in later life. At Mill Strand Integrated School we see learning as something to be enjoyed, to be valued, cherished and explored without fear of making mistakes. It is an adventure and journey we all travel by slightly different routes but one that should be fun and rewarding, where we turn the page of a book, not because we have been told to do so, but because we want to discover what happens next.
