ADMISSIONS - This page will be updated for the September 2025 intake in November 2024
Is your child eligible to start school in 2024?
We have places available in our Nursery and Year 1 classes and while no school can guarantee a child a place we have been able to accept all first choice applicants in both our Nursery classes and Year 1 since our enrolment was increased to meet parental demand seven years ago.
Open Mornings
We are delighted to tell you about our upcoming 'Open Mornings' on Friday 5 January, Thursday 11 January and Friday 12 January 2024 for prospective families.
This year we will be running this as a drop in event so you can book in using the link below to see around and find out more about our wonderful school and nursery.
If you are planning on attending we would ask that you register using the following link:
https://forms.office.com/e/B7R4kr2QWp?origin=lprLink
If you are unable to attend on this date, please get in touch with us at the school on 028 7082 3090 and we would be more than happy to organise an individual tour for you and your child.
As 26 of the nursery places are funded full-time and 26 are funded part-time the Board of Governors of the school have extended provision so that all correct age pupils attending either setting attend for full time hours. This in effect means equal provision in both Nursery settings so that no child joining the school is disadvantaged.

IMPORTANT DATES
The EA Connect School Applications portal on the Education Authority's web-site for applications for both Nursery and Primary will open at 12.00 noon on Tuesday 9 January 2024 and close at 12.00 noon on Friday 26 January 2024.
HOW TO APPLYApplying for a nursery or school place can appear complicated. We have created this guide to help parents and to break the information down into manageable sections.
If you require help, please do not hesitate to contact the school where a member of staff will help guide you through the process. The first thing to do is to determine what class you are applying for. Essentially, if your child is 3 years old, on or before 1 July 2024 you can apply for a Nursery place. If your child is 4 years old you can apply for a Year 1 place. We have separated our advice into Nursery and Year 1 below. |
NB applications for both Nursery and Year 1 can be deferred for certain children depending on their date of birth. This is detailed separately on the EA web-site.

NURSERY
Mill Strand Integrated School operates two nursery classes. Although one is funded full-time and the other part-time the school operates both on a full-time basis, ensuring that all children entering the school receive equal educational provision to prepare them for primary education the following year. Mill Strand Integrated School and Nursery remains the only integrated primary and nursery provision in the area, serving the three towns of Portrush, Portstewart and Coleraine. As such, our criteria gives priority to those seeking an integrated education. As the Education Authority considers both nursery classes as separate entities, parents applying for a nursery place at Mill Strand must indicate that preference for an integrated education by putting Mill Strand Integrated Nursery Unit (full-time) as their 1st preference and Mill Strand Integrated Nursery Unit (part-time) as their 2nd preference. Parents can then list alternative choices 3rd, 4th etc. Unless both units are listed, a pupil cannot be considered for both classes. The criteria for Mill Strand Nursery can be downloaded using the button below. To apply for a nursery place in either of our nursery classes parents can access the applications section of the EA's web-site using the link below.
Please note that the portal for applications will not be available on the EA web-site until 12 noon on Tuesday 9th January 2024.
The applications portal closes at 12 noon on Friday 26th January 2024 |
PRIMARY - YEAR 1
Although all children enrolled in Mill Strand Integrated Nursery are guaranteed a place in Year 1 at the school, parents must apply for a place through EA Open Enrolment as transfer from nursery to primary is not automatic. To apply for a Year 1 place for September 2024, parents can access the applications section of the EA's web-site using the link below.
The criteria for Mill Strand - Year 1 admissions can be downloaded using the link below.
