SPECIAL EDUCATIONAL NEEDS
Providing for the special, additional or other individual educational needs of pupils
We believe that all children are uniquely special and, regardless of ability, circumstances or learning needs, that every child deserves to be given the best possible start in life, enabling them to fulfil their full potential.
We work to achieve this through a meticulous and methodical approach to the management and organisation of SEN that includes the monitoring and assessment of needs, record keeping and assessment of data, working with staff to support the needs of all pupils, the consistent use of appropriate strategies throughout the school, the organisation of appropriate and effective interventions, liaising with and utilising outside agencies and the training and personal development of staff. In doing so, we strive to ensure that the education provision caters for the individual needs of all pupils at the school.
In line with ‘Good Practice Guidelines’ - for schools to meet the special educational needs of children at the school-based stages of the code of practice, staff at Mill Strand are committed to undertaking relevant and purposeful measures to meet the needs of every child and that reasonable adjustments and accommodations are made to include all pupils in the life of the school and to ensure curriculum access. This includes adjustments to the environment, pupil access to curriculum and examination materials and provision for social factors/relationships.
